Margaret Firlotte is a Michif (Métis) & settler artist living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Her michif family ties are to the Red River Valley and her family names are Gaudry and Laferty. She is a beadwork artist and has been practicing and honouring this art form since the spring of 2019. Much like the matriarchs who came before her, Margaret finds herself inspired by the flora and fauna found in her surroundings, and she has created several pieces centred on the wildflowers one finds in Manitoba, her home province, and on flowers found around Lake Superior, where she also has family.
Margaret was part of the team who received the 2023 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive! for their project “mámawihítowin - Rasenbli - Ganaagishkwadaadiwin - Rencontre - Gathering”.
