This piece was commissioned with the intent of framing the end piece and gifting it to an exceptional student doing her PhD on detecting Alzheimer’s through brain MRIs, hence the MRI of the brain featured prominently in the centre of the piece, done using a mixture of size 11s and 13s. Margaret incorporated some charlotte cut black and navy beads in order for the brain scan to stand out against the black felt. As this student is Métis, Margaret added her classic Métis roses along the side with rose buds as this student is blossoming and budding into their identity and their career. The final touch is the addition of seven forget-me-nots sprouting from the bottom. Forget-me-nots are the chosen logo to “represents” Alzheimer’s and Margaret added one for each of the seven teachings Indigenous Peoples are taught. Lastly, the use of orange beads to create a border are a nod to the student’s university colours and their time in the States.
Margaret states there is “lots of meaning behind this piece , and I am incredibly honoured to have been asked to make this for them”.
Piece done in March 2024 and is Margaret’s own design, which is not available for copying.
